Understanding Music Chord Structures and Progressions.

Authored by Fred I. Grace, 8 July 2016 publication.

Available at Amazon.com, paperback book $15.95 each

Description: This book contains 36,000 words in 80 pages, 44 charts, and 9 musical compositions. The discourse shows how chords are formed from basic three‐note triads to seven note chords. The description of chords is aided greatly by musical notation so this book contains two beginning chapters for that purpose. Chord structures cover major and minor triads, suspended 4ths, diminish and augment, sixths, sevenths, major sevenths, ninths, elevenths, and thirteenths. Further, chord identities, variations, and substitution are defined and explained.  Progressions involved in the Circle of Fifths, 3‐chord songs, 4‐chord songs with simple and embellished versions, tags, and passing chord as examples are provided as well. This book provides an understanding of chords for beginners, intermediate players, and those who have an interest in chord structures and use in progressions, and is a must for composers. This book can be used in a classroom setting or serve as a self-instruction guide.
